White Embossed Secret Garden Birthday Card

Today I’m sharing a card that I created for the Freshly Made Sketches #74.  I made this card using the Secret Garden and You’re Amazing stamp sets from Stampin’ Up.  Here is the sketch:

And here is my card:

Secret Garden

Here are the products that you will need to create this card:

  • Secret Garden Stamp Set (129141 wood, 129144 clear)
  • You’re Amazing Stamp Set (126720 wood, 126722 clear)
  • Secret Garden Framelits Dies (129372)
  • Top Note Bigz Die (113463)
  • Apothecary Accents Framelits Die (127003)
  • White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (109132)
  • Heat Gun (129053)
  • VersaMark Pad (102283)
  • Pearl Basic Jewels (119247)
  • Large Pearl Basic Jewels (125577)
  • Aqua Painter (103954)
  • Whisper White Craft Pad (101731)
  • Blender Pens (102845)
  • Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack (129312)
  • White Vellum Card Stock (101856)
  • Gumball Green Classic Stampin’ Pad (126861)
  • Midnight Muse Classic Stampin’ Pad (126860)
  • Summer Starfruit Classic Stampin’ Pad (126991)
  • Crumb Cake Card Stock (120953)
  • SNAIL Adhesive (104332)

I started with a Crumb Cake card base cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″.  Then I cut a panel of Print Poetry DSP to 4″ x 5-1/4″ and I adhered it to the card front with SNAIL.  I cut a panel of Crumb Cake card stock with the Top Note Bigz Die, stamped the flower images from the Secret Garden stamp set in VersaMark ink, sprinkled them with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed them.  Next, I used my Aqua Painter (with a little bit of water in it) and my Whisper White Craft Ink Pad and I painted the craft ink on the flower images.  I let it dry completely, then used a Blender pen to add color to the flower petals and centers using Summer Starfruit and Midnight Muse inks.  Then I stamped the images of the leaves in Gumball Green around the flower images and I adhered the panel to the card front with SNAIL.  Next, I stamped the sentiment from the You’re Amazing stamp set in VersaMark ink on Vellum card stock, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, heat embossed it and adhered it to the card front using a little bit of SNAIL (mostly under the writing so you can’t see it through the Vellum).  To finish the card, I added a large pearl next to the sentiment and 3 smaller pearls to the lower right side of the card.

Quick Tips For Using Blender Pens:  If you’ve never used a Blender Pen, they’re very easy to use and they can add a lot of shading to your project.  To use a Blender Pen, simply stamp your image (make sure that you use StazOn Ink or heat emboss otherwise your stamped ink with blend as you work), open up the ink pad that you’d like to use and touch the tip of your Blender Pen to the ink pad.  Then start coloring with your Blender Pen in the area that you’d like the darkest ink to be and work your way out to the area that you’d like the lightest color using a swirling motion.  Working on a small area at a time works best, I colored each flower petal individually when I colored this card.  When you’re done coloring with that ink color, draw with the Blender Pen on scrap paper until the ink is clear again and you’re ready to start with the next color.

The Aqua Painter and craft ink technique was so simple and it really softens the look of the ink on the flowers.  I first saw this technique done by Karen Barber, I really appreciate her sharing it.  I hope that you’ll give it a try too!
