Stampin’ Up! An Open Heart & Santa Stache Ornaments

I created some Christmas ornaments using the Santa Stache and An Open Heart stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! to share with you today.  I saw this cute ornament that Angie Britt made and when I read how easy it was to create, I couldn’t wait to try it!

An Open Heart & Santa Stache - Stamp With Amy K

I picked up the pre-made porcelain ornaments at my local craft store and all that I did was stamp the images from the Santa Stache and An Open Heart stamp sets in StazOn Jet Black ink directly onto the ornaments.  Then I used my red Sharpie marker and I added a little color to the stamped images.

An Open Heart - Stamp With Amy K

On the star ornament, I stamped the “joy” sentiment from the Bright & Beautiful stamp set, then tied a little bow from Real Red 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon, adhered it with a Glue Dot and added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel on the left.

For the Santa ornament, I tied a bow from Real Red 3/8″ Satin Woven Ribbon and adhered it with a Glue Dot, then I added some Dazzling Details glitter glue on Santa’s hat, mustache and beard.

Super quick and easy!  I can’t wait to go pick up more ornaments to to try out with a few more images.

You can find a complete list of supplies at the very bottom of this post.

  1. Hi Amy,

Love all your post. I was just reading the one about your ornaments. You don’t spray a coat of clear coat on them so that the designs don’t ever fade? I spray mine and when I get down to my basement I will email you the name of the stuff we were taught to use at a Stampin’ Up Camp we went too. I use tiles from Home Depot or Lowe’s to stamp on. I will send you a photo of a few of them that I made. I have given them out as Hot Plates for gifts and they last forever. I have made them for all different season, Thanksgiving, Fall, Winter, Christmas, Easter etc.

    Love your blog!

  2. Hi Amy! Angie Britt here from Happily Ever Crafter. 🙂 Thanks for linking to me today. I am so happy to see others getting out there and trying these out! You do have to be careful when using those markers not to get it on the Stazon because it can smear (because they are both alcohol based). Pam asked about spraying them. I do not personally spray mine. I don’t think it’s a bad idea. Once they are dry they will not smear but, if you scratched them it can come off in the area it was scratched. Since these only come out once a year and should go onto the tree I have not had any problems with mine and I have been making them for a few years now. Another tip: I keep baby wipes handy!! If I do not like my stamped image all I do is grab a wipe and clean it off really quick and try again. Hope that helps. 🙂 Have a great day and Happy Stamping!

  3. I like the look of these too–but always was concerned about not varnishing them when they are done to protect them. I was also wondering if there was a need to do anything before stamping so it doesn’t smear on the slick surface.

Have you tried stamping in other inks than StazOn? And what about using the regular stampin up markers or blendabilities–would they work?

wasn’t planning on leaving the house today–paint and card day–but I know I saw these ornaments at the store so may need a trip outside afterall.

    thanks for the great idea.

    Mary

    • I didn’t do anything to prep the ornaments. I just stamped on them. I also didn’t try any other types of inks…but I might have to so that I can see what works and what doesn’t. 🙂

  4. Thank you ladies for all of the tips you’ve been giving Amy!! I haven’t done these either, but with Amy’s idea and all the knowledge here, I can’t wait to try 🙂 I LOVE your ornaments because they will be perfect to add to packages, cards, gift cards…. well ya’ll get the the drift. Amy, I really like the way you blinged up both the Santa and also like the simple Joy added to the Open Heart set. The extra coloring in with the beautiful ribbon addition really completes a fantastic little happy gift! Oh boy, I can’t wait 😉

  5. These are so fun! I’d love to know where you found the ornaments as well, I’ve never seen them anywhere before.

  6. I bought my ornaments today and can’t wait to stamp on them tomorrow. Who knows, maybe I’ll have to break out the supplies yet tonight :). An employee at my craft store recommended baking the ceramic ornaments if I wanted to seal it. Haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet.

  7. No surprise here, but I couldn’t wait until morning to try this out. I used the “Keep Your Santa On” stamp set and my ornament turned out super cute!! I can’t wait to try out different images/sentiments. Thanks again for the inspiration. The baby wipe suggestion was helpful also.
