Stampin’ Up! Butterfly Basics Ombre Card

I used the Butterfly Basics and A Dozen Thoughts stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! to create my card to share today.  I also used some of the Irresistibly Yours DSP for the background, I love the way that it turned out!

Butterfly Basics - Stamp With Amy K

My card design was inspired by the My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge 215.

Screen Shot 2015-02-16 at 1.53.39 PMI started by sponging a panel of Irresistibly Yours Specialty DSP with Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Pool Party and Soft Sky.  I sponged about 1/4 of the panel with each color, starting with the darkest at the bottom and moving to the lightest at the top.  Then I adhered the sponged panel to a panel of Bermuda Bay card stock with SNAIL and to a Pool Party card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Butterfly Basics 2 - Stamp With Amy K

I cut a butterfly from Bermuda Bay card stock with the middle die from the Butterflies Thinlits Dies and I adhered it to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I stamped the butterfly image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set in Soft Sky ink on a Whisper White panel and I cut it out with the small butterfly die from the Butterflies Thinlits Dies set.  I sponged the edges with Bermuda Bay ink, the adhered it with Glue Dots to the other die cut butterfly.

Butterfly Basics 3 - Stamp With Amy K

I stamped the sentiment from the A Dozen Thoughts stamp set in Bermuda Bay ink on a strip of White Vellum card stock.  I punched the ends with the Hexagon Punch, then adhered it to the card front with a Stampin’ Dimensional (hidden by the embellishment).

I adhered the large metal flower button from the Artisan Embellishment Kit to the Vellum sentiment with a Glue Dot to complete the card front.

Butterfly Basics 4 - Stamp With Amy K

I inked up the butterfly image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set with Pool Party ink, then I sponged Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay inks onto the stamp and I stamped the image on a panel of Whisper White card stock on the inside of the card.

  1. You just keep rockin’ these new items, Amy! L♥ve the ombre effect you achieved with these Beautiful colors! Got to admire those layered butterflies, and the vellum is so soft and perfect for the finishing touch to this gorgeous card~

  2. I love seeing your interpretations of the different sketches. You are so creative! This card is just lovely. Thanks for sharing your talents so freely with us.

  3. Love it. Really like how you put the vellum sentiment over the butterfly. That’s unexpected and quite cool. Question – do you heat the ink after stamping it on the vellum? I’ve been unsuccessful to this point in getting the ink to not smear on vellum. What am I doing wrong?!?

    • Thanks Mary! To answer your question, I use the Heat Tool on the low setting to dry the ink. You can heat set the ink with a higher heat tool, but it will cause the vellum to curl. The low heat setting works great! 🙂

  4. Wow Amy, what a gorgeous card! You did such an awesome job with the ombre on the Irresistably Yours dsp , I can’t wait to try that 🙂 I love the colors that you choose to make your card. This is definitely going into my “Amy CASE stash” 😉

PS: I made it through the space camp w/6th & 7th graders. Lots of fun and very loud and very tired, lol!
