Swallowtail Butterfly Chalkboard Technique

Today I’m sharing two cards that I made using the new Swallowtail stamp from Stampin’ Up.  I created these using the chalkboard technique that I’ve seen everywhere lately.  It’s really simple and definitely is a neat effect.

You can see the chalkboard technique a little bit better in the closer photos below.  Here is a close up of the all black card:

Here is the list of products that you’ll need to create this card:

I started with a Basic Black card base cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″.  Then I cut a panel of Basic Black to 4″ x 5-1/4″.  I stamped the sentiment from the Sweet Essentials stamp set in VersaMark ink, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Then I stamped the Swallowtail image in VersaMark and repeated the heat embossing.  Next, I sponged Whisper White Craft ink around the edges of the panel and over and around the butterfly image to make it look like chalk dust.  Then I adhered the decorated panel to the card base with SNAIL.  I finished the card by adhering 3 small Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons with Glue Dots above the sentiment.

Here is the list of products that you’ll need to create this card:

I started with a Primrose Petals card base cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″.  Then I cut a panel of Basic Black to 4″ x 5-1/4″.  I stamped the sentiment from the Vintage Verses stamp set in VersaMark ink (I wiped the ink off the ! since I didn’t want it on my card this time), sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it. I finished the card by adhering 3 In Color Dahlias with Glue Dots above the sentiment.

A quick tip for heat embossing:  The Embossing Buddy (item 103083) is a must have tool for heat embossing.  A quick rub across the card stock before you begin stamping helps prevent extra embossing powder and glitter from sticking where you don’t want it.  I use it every time I heat emboss so make sure that you add one to your next order and use it every time you heat emboss!

I love the chalkboard look and these cards are really quick and simple to complete.  The Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons and the Vintage Verses Stamp Set are both Sale-a-bration items so you can earn them with a $50 Stampin’ Up purchase between now and March 22!
