Big News Birthday – Stampin’ Up!

I just got this fun new set from Stampin’ Up! called Big News.  It’s got some great sentiments for birthdays, weddings, babies and thank you notes!  I was trying to make this a more gender neutral birthday card and I had to stop myself several times from pulling out the Melon Mambo ink…I was afraid that would make it too girly, but I think this card would look great with Melon Mambo replacing the Old Olive too.  🙂

My card design was inspired by the Stamping and Blogging SB59 Sketch.  Be sure to stop by the other design team members blogs (linked below) see their fabulous creations!

I started by adhering a panel of Sweet Taffy DSP to a panel of Tempting Turquoise card stock with SNAIL.  Then I cut the panel in half from corner to corner to create the two triangles and I adhered them to the Daffodil Delight card base with SNAIL.

Then I adhered a strip of Sweet Taffy DSP at a diagonal across the card front with SNAIL.  One quick tip:  I found it easier to cut the strip longer than the length needed, then adhere the strip to the card front and trim the excess with my Paper Snips.  I cut a panel of Sweet Taffy DSP with the 2nd largest Banners Framelits Die, cut it in half and adhered the two pieces of the die cut to the card front with about a 3/4″ gap between them.

I colored the sentiment from the Big News stamp set with my Stampin’ Write Markers, stamped it on a Whisper White panel.  Then I inked the little star from the Something to Say stamp set in Daffodil Delight ink, stamped it on scrap paper once, then stamped it on the sentiment panel.  I repeated that process for all three stars.  Then I punched the corners of the panel with my Envelope Punch Board corner rounder.  I adhered the sentiment panel to a square of Tempting Turquoise, then to a square of Daffodil Delight card stock, after rounding all of the corners with the Envelope Punch Board.

I colored the little candle images from the Big News stamp set with my Stampin’ Write Markers, stamped them on Whisper White card stock and cut them out with my Paper Snips.  I adhered the candles to the card front with SNAIL and Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I colored five Rhinestone Basic Jewels with the dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Marker and I adhered them to the card front over the star images.

I stamped the sentiment from the Big News stamp set in Tempting Turquoise ink on a Whisper White panel, then colored the little candle images again with my Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped them randomly below the sentiment.
