Stampin’ Up! Autism Matters Blog Hop

Welcome to the Autism Matters Leadership Blog Hop!

The intent of our blog hop today is to raise awareness and funds for autism related research, resources and services for those affected by autism and to advocate for the needs of those with autism.  Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years.  It is now more common in the United States than pediatric AIDS, juvenile diabetes, and childhood cancer combined.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you probably already know this part…if you’re new to my blog, you’ll see why I jumped right in with this hop!

Raising awareness and funds for research and services for those with autism is very near and dear to me…I have a daughter with autism.  If you’re interested in reading more about our story, you can click over to this page on my blog.

Since Autism Speaks encourages everyone to, “Light It Up Blue” for the month of April to raise awareness, I’ve tried to do just that with my project today.  I used the Perfect Pennants and Timeless Textures stamp sets as well as the Rose Garden Thinlits Dies to create my card to share.

The design for my card was inspired by Mojo Monday #442.

And the colors for my card were inspired by Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #42 (perfect colors this week, thank you!!).

I started by inking the flourish image from Timeless Textures stamp set in Soft Sky ink, stamping it on scrap paper, then stamping it on a panel of Whisper White card stock.  I inked the sentiment from the Perfect Pennants stamp set with Soft Sky and stamped it with my MISTI on the panel.  I masked the sentiment, then inked just the top line in Bermuda Bay and stamped it with the MISTI on the panel and then repeated the process with Night of Navy ink for the bottom line.  I adhered the stamped panel to a panel of Soft Sky card stock with SNAIL and to a Night of Navy card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I embossed panels of Whisper White card stock with the Fluttering Embossing Folder and the Elegant Dots Embossing Folder.  I adhered the embossed panels to panels of Soft Sky card stock and then to the card front with SNAIL.  I stamped the dot image from the Perfect Pennants stamp set in Soft Sky ink on a strip of Whisper White card stock, slid the end through my Banner Punch and punched it, then adhered it to the card front with SNAIL.

I cut the rose with the Rose Garden Thinlits Die from Soft Sky and Night of Navy card stocks.  I punched a 2″ Circle from Night of Navy card stock and adhered the Night of Navy die cut to it with Mulitpurpose Liquid Glue.  I sponged the edges of the Soft Sky die cut pieces with Bermuda Bay ink and a Sponge Dauber, then glued the pieces inside the Night of Navy die cut.  I adhered the die cut to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a single Rhinestone Basic Jewel to finish it.

I stamped the flourish from the Timeless Textures stamp set in Night of Navy ink on a Whisper White panel inside the card.  A complete list of supplies as well as card stock cuts for this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.
