When  I saw the Retrosketches #57 Challenge, I thought that it would be perfect for the faux tile technique.  This technique is so easy and it looks fantastic!  I used the Stampin’ Up! stamp set called The Open Sea to create this card.

I started by scoring a piece of 3″ x 3″ Whisper White card stock at the 1″ and 2″ points.  Then I turned my square 90 degrees and scored again at 1″ just to the first line, then skipped a space and scored at 1″ in the third space.  I scored at 2″ in the middle space.  Hopefully the photo below will make it a little clearer.

I inked up the images from The Open Sea stamp set (stamping the Night of Navy and Early Espresso images off once on scrap paper), placed the stamp face up, then placed my scored panel over the it, pressing my fingers gently over the back of the card stock everywhere except the score lines.

I lightly sponged the panel with Early Espresso ink and gave it a quick shot with my Heat Tool to make sure that the image was completely dry.  Then I used my VersaMark ink pad and I gently tapped it over the image to cover it with ink.

I sprinkled the entire image with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and I heat embossed it, which gives the image a shiny faux tile look.

I the adhered the stamped panel to a 3-1/8 x 3-1/8″ Whisper White Square with SNAIL, then  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the square to a Cherry Cobbler panel that I’d embossed with the Sweet Essentials sentiment using VersaMark ink and Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I adhered a panel of Night of Navy under the Cherry Cobbler panel, then wrapped Early Espresso Baker’s Twine around the layered panels.  I stamped the anchor image in VersaMark ink, heat embossed it with Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss Power and cut it out with Paper Snips.

I punched a hole with the 1/16″ Circle Handheld Punch and I threaded the Baker’s Twine through it.  I tied a small bow, then adhered the anchor to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I adhered the layered panels to the Early Espresso card base with Stampin’Dimensionals.

To finish the card, I stamped the images again on the Whisper White panel that I adhered inside the card.  And I had so much fun making this card, that I decided to make another one only I used the Thanks sentiment from the Kindness Matters stamp set!
