Watercolor Thank You Notes – Stampin’ Up!

I used the Watercolor Thank You and Gorgeous Grunge stamp sets from Stampin’ Up! to create my card to share today.  Messy watercolor painting is a lot of fun to do and it’s neat to see how each one turns out!

I must admit, the Sunday Stamps SSC85 color challenge was a real challenge for me.  I played with a few different ideas and finally decided that watercoloring the background would be perfect!

Screen Shot 2014-09-24 at 2.28.17 PMI started by stamping the sentiment from the Watercolor Thank You stamp set in VersaMark Ink on a panel of Watercolor Paper.  I sprinkled the image with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.

Then I used plain water and my Aqua Painter to wet the entire panel.  I squeezed the center of my closed Garden Green ink pad to get a little of the ink to stick to the lid and I used my Aqua Painter to apply the color to my watercolor paper.  I repeated that process with Rich Razzleberry and Blackberry Bliss inks.

Before the water dried on the Watercolor Paper panel, I inked up the splatter image from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set with Garden Green ink, stamped it off once on scrap paper, then stamped it over the area that I’d watercolored with Garden Green ink.  I repeated the process with the Rich Razzleberry and Blackberry Bliss inks as well.  By stamping on the wet paper, the ink bled a little to soften the ink splattered look.

I let the paper dry completely, then used the little heart from the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits Dies to cut a heart near the sentiment and I added two strips of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape to the upper left corner.  I used Fast Fuse adhesive to adhere the Watercolor paper panel to a panel of Brushed Gold card stock, then I adhered the layered panel to a Rich Razzleberry card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added a few random sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim, using Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere them.  Then I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to finish the card front.

I used the leftover die cut (from my card below) and a strip of Brushed Gold card stock to decorate a Naturals White card stock panel inside the card.

Since I already had the messy watercoloring supplies out, I made a second card using a Garden Green card base.  🙂

Quick tips for watercoloring:  If you want a more intense color, use your Aqua Painter and ink on dry Watercolor Paper.  For a more watery, blended look, wet the paper first with plain water, then add your ink colors.
