Stampin’ Up! Service Project – Cards for Kids With SCAD Soccer

I received a phone call about two weeks ago from a woman who was looking for someone to help her daughter’s soccer team make cards for some children who live in a residential treatment facility in north Georgia.  She explained that her daughter’s soccer team wanted to make and send cards to the children that live in the facility since they rarely or never get mail while they are there.

We needed to get 70 cards made in about 1 hour, which was a bit of a challenge…and on top of that, the 35 young ladies had never stamped before.  The cards needed to be simple and cute for either a boy our a girl between the ages of 12 and 18, but still something that we could do in the limited time that we had.  I went straight to my Stampin’ Up! Note Cards & Envelopes and started designing.

These are the two notecards that I came up with.  We needed to create 35 of each so I prepped as much as I could ahead of time and left the stamping, punching and assembly for the soccer team.

The soccer team was from Savannah College of Art and Design so these young ladies had awesome skills…they just needed me to give them a few minutes worth of instructions and they were busy stamping and punching.

This group went to work assembling the blue banner cards.

And this group assembled the ice cream cone card.  They had a lot of fun coming up with different ways to stack the ice cream scoops and turning the card all sorts of different directions as they were adhering the pieces.  🙂

Each girl got to add a personal note to two or three of the cards (yep, they’re very much artists!).

Here they are all together showing off their work.  🙂

This note card features the sentiment from the All Things Thanks stamp set stamped in Sweet Sugarplum ink.  The ice cream pieces were cut from Pool Party, Lemon Lime Twist, Sweet Sugarplum, Peekaboo Peach and Crumb Cake card stocks with the Frozen Treats Framelits Dies.

This card features the Badges & Banners stamp set and Best Badge Punch.  The sentiment is stamped in Dapper Denim ink and then layered over a Starburst Punch from Champagne Foil Sheets (available Sept 1).  The banner was punched from Eastern Palace Specialty DSP with the Banner Triple Punch and the card front was embossed with the Sparkle Embossing Folder.

I think that the girls really enjoyed creating and writing the cards and I was happy to help!  We got the cards done in under an hour (even with a speedy trip back to my house to pick up the banner pieces and foil sheets that I’d forgotten to pack…yikes!) and now each child at the treatment facility will have a hand made piece of mail to open.  🙂
