The Open Sea in Smoky Slate and Baked Brown Sugar

Today I’m sharing a card that I made with the Stampin’ Up! stamp set called The Open Sea.  I’m also giving you another sneak peek at some new colors…Smoky Slate and Baked Brown Sugar.  I distressed and sponged everything on this card!  And I had to take a deep breath before I allowed myself to tear a chunk of card stock off the top, I’m usually far to obsessed with getting things exactly right to just rip a piece off….but I’m learning to let go.  🙂

Blog Candy!!  Don’t forget to leave a comment on my blog post from yesterday to be entered to win blog candy.  Click here to go to the post and leave a comment.  I’ll be announcing the winners tomorrow morning.

The card design was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches #85.

The Open Sea

I started by stamping the images from The Open Sea stamp set in Baked Brown Sugar ink on Baked Brown Sugar card stock and in Marina Mist ink on Marina Mist card stock.  I (still deep breathing) tore the top of the Baked Brown Sugar card stock off, then sponged all of the edges with Baked Brown Sugar ink and distressed them with the Stampin’ Distress Tool.  I adhered the panels together, then to a Smoky Slate card base with SNAIL.

**Quick Tip for Distressing and Sponging:  I initially started distressing the edges first, then sponging but I found that I was getting tiny shreds of card stock all over my sponge and ink pad when I did that.  So I switched to sponging first, then distressing and that worked much better for me.

The Open Sea 1

Then I stamped three of the banner images from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set in Marina Mist ink on Marina Mist card stock, cut them out with the Hearts a Flutter Framelits die, sponged the edges with Baked Brown Sugar and distressed them.  I adhered the banners with SNAIL to the card front, leaving the ends loose so that I could curl them up a little.  Next, I stamped the ship image in Smoky Slate on Very Vanilla card stock, cut it out with the Ovals Collection Framelits die, sponged the edges with Baked Brown Sugar ink and distressed them.  I adhered the image with SNAIL to an Ovals Collection Framelits die cut from Smoky Slate card stock that I’d embossed with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder.  I adhered the layered image over the banners with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Open Sea 3

I finished the card front by stamping the Happy Father’s Day sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Smoky Slate ink on Very Vanilla card stock, sponging the edges with Baked Brown Sugar ink and distressing them.  I adhered the sentiment with SNAIL to a strip of Smoky Slate card stock that I’d sponged with Baked Brown Sugar ink and distressed.  I adhered the layered sentiment to the card front with SNAIL.

The Open Sea 2

I finished the inside of the card by stamping the image in Smoky Slate ink on a Very Vanilla panel, sponging the edges with Baked Brown Sugar ink, distressing them and adhering the panel with SNAIL.
