Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms for the Totally Techniques Blog Hop

I used the Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms stamp set to create my card for the monthly Totally Techniques blog hop.  This month we’re focusing on the watercoloring.

I tried out the no line watercoloring technique where the images are stamped with the regular Stampin’ Up! inks and watercolored with a damp Aqua Painter.  I think that I need a little more practice with the blending, but overall I was happy with the way that my project turned out.

The design for my card is loosely based on Retrosketches #207.

The colors for my card were inspired by Cupcake Inspirations 352.

I started by stamping the image from the Hardwood stamp in Sahara Sand ink on a panel of Sahara Sand card stock.  I wrapped a strand of Sahara Sand 7/8″ Lace Trim around the panel, securing it on the back with tape, then I adhered the stamped panel to a Sahara Sand card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the watercolor panel, I started by wetting the entire panel with just water then I added a little Pear Pizzazz ink to the panel and moved it around until the entire panel was lightly covered with ink.  I let the panel dry completely, then stamped the flower image from the Birthday Blooms stamp set in Wild Wasabi ink.  I used a fairly dry Aqua Painter and Wild Wasabi ink to paint the leaves on the flower.

I stamped the flower image on a separate panel of watercolor paper in Tangerine Tango ink and I used a fairly dry Aqua Painter to a paint the flower images with Tangerine Tango and Daffodil Delight inks.  I let the images dry completely, then snipped them out and adhered them to the larger watercolor panel with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  I adhered the stamped panel to a panel of Wild Wasabi card stock with Multipurpose Liquid Glue, then to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I painted a smaller panel of watercolor paper with a watercolor wash in Pear Pizzazz ink, let it dry, then stamped the banner image and sentiment from the You’re So Lovely stamp set in Pear Pizzazz and Tangerine Tango inks.  I cut the banner out with the matching Large Numbers Framelits Dies and adhered it with Glue Dots to the card front.  I added a Pear Pizzazz Candy Dot from the Subtles Candy Dots pack and two Pearl Basic Jewels to finish the card front.

Birthday Blooms 4 - Stamp With Amy K

I inked the flower image from the Birthday Blooms stamp set in Tangerine Tango ink, stamped it on scrap paper, then stamped it on a panel of Very Vanilla card stock on the inside of the card.

  3. What a beautiful card – perfect for any number of occasions. Your watercolor technique is so pretty. I love using my SU! inks for coloring, no extra watercolor set required. Have you ever tried the watercolor crystals? They’re quite unique!

  7. I think it’s brilliant to add that subtle colour first and then add your cut out flower on top. Sometimes I want a subtle outline to my flowers and this works beautifully for that technique. Such a soft and springy feeling card. Just gorgeous.

  14. You nailed this challenge my friend, the no line water coloring technique is so lovely and subtle yet the flower still really pops off the card. I LOVE IT!!
