Stampin’ Up! Best Birds Happy Birthday

I used the Stampin’ Up! Best Birds stamp set and Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies to create my card to share today.  Love this stamp set and love that it’s available in a bundle with the coordinating dies for 10% off!

Best Birds - Stamp With Amy K

The design for my card was loosely inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #241.

And the colors for my card were inspired by Pals Paper Arts PPA305.  I did add a tiny bit of green and brown for the branches…those looked a little strange in blue.  🙂

I started by punching a Post-It Note with Tree Builder Punch.  I used the Post-It Note as a mask and I sponged Whisper White Stampin’ Craft Ink inside the punched area with a Sponge Dauber to create the clouds on a panel of Pool Party card stock.

Best Birds 1 - Stamp With Amy K

I stamped the sentiment from the Best Birds photopolymer stamp set in Island Indigo ink on the lower right corner of the Pool Party card stock panel, then adhered the panel to a panel of Whisper White card stock with SNAIL and to an Island Indigo card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Best Birds 3 - Stamp With Amy K

I stamped the branch image in Soft Suede ink, the flower images in Pool Party ink and the bird in Island Indigo ink on a panel of watercolor paper.  I used an Aqua Painter along with Soft Suede, Wild Wasabi, Pool Party, Island Indigo and Pumpkin Pie inks to paint the images.  Since the images were stamped in regular ink, I used a fairly dry Aqua Painter and made sure not to over blend so that the details would not be blended away.

Best Birds 2 - Stamp With Amy K

I let the images dry completely and cut them out with the Birds & Blooms Thinlits Dies.  I trimmed a bit off the end of the branch and adhered the it with Multipurpose Liquid Glue to the card front.  I adhered the bird and flower images with Glue Dots to finish the card front.

Best Birds 4 - Stamp With Amy K

I stamped the bird image again in Island Indigo ink on a panel of Whisper White card stock inside the card.

  1. love, love love this bundle and this card is absolutely stunning what a great color combo you came up with for it.

  2. Would sure like to see a video. I’m new to Stampin Up and not sure how you did all this technique. A lovely, beautiful card!!! Looking forward to a video. Love your website.

    • Thanks Carol! I’ll see if I can get a video put together. It’s actually a pretty easy technique, just stamp the image in regular ink, blot as much water as you can from your Aqua Painter and then watercolor the image. 🙂

  3. What a soft and pretty card. That bird has such great detail, and the way you perched him on the branch is perfect. Happy Monday!

    • Thanks Sherry! Glad that it looks close to a real bird…I’m sure that the coloring is all wrong for this bird, but I still like the way that it turned out! 🙂

  4. Wow Amy, your coloring of that bird is just beautiful!

Love it. I am sure you are going to get a lot of responses on this one.
