Stampin’ Up! Vertical Garden Hello

I used the Stampin’ Up! Vertical Garden stamp set to create a chalkboard technique “hello” card to share with you today.

The chalkboard design for my card was inspired by Cupcake Inspiration CIC395.

And this one also works for Global Design Project #GDP075 so I figured that I’d put another one in their challenge too.  🙂

I started by adhering a panel of Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper from the Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack (Sale-a-bration item) to a panel of Whisper White card stock with SNAIL.  Before I adhered the layered Glimmer Paper panel to the Basic Black card front, I punched holes with the 3/4″ Circle Punch in four places (making sure that they’d be hidden by the focal panel).

I adhered the layered Glimmer Paper panel to the Basic Black card base with SNAIL and then adhered Stampin’ Dimensionals to the Basic Black card base so that I could attach the focal panel to it.  This works very well for adhering layers over Glimmer Paper since most adhesives won’t stick well to it.

I stamped the sentiment and leaf images from the Vertical Garden stamp set in VersaMark Ink on a panel of Basic Black card stock.  I sprinkled the images with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed them.  I decided that I wanted to add a little color to the leaves, so I used a Blender Pen and Bermuda Bay ink to color them.  Then I did a quick heat with the Heat Tool to set the ink.  It dried a nice light blue shade and it doesn’t smudge!

I used a Stamping Sponge wedge and a little Whisper White Craft Stampin’ Ink to add white ink around the edges and over the stamped images to give it the chalkboard effect.  I adhered the stamped panel to a panel of Whisper White card stock with SNAIL and then to the card front with the Stampin’ Dimensionals that I’d placed in the hole punches on the card front.

I stamped the small butterfly image from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set in VersaMark ink on a panel of Bermuda Bay card stock, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  I punched the image out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch and adhered it with a Glue Dot.  I cut flowers with the Botanical Builder Framelits Die from Bermuda Bay card stock and adhered them to the card front with rolled up Glue Dots.  I finished the card front by adding Pearl Basic Jewels to the center of the flowers.

I kept the inside simple with just the loop image from the Vertical Garden stamp set stamped in Bermuda Bay ink on a panel of Whisper White card stock.

  1. Thanks for showing how you cut holes in the sparkly paper to attach the top panel. You also could have cut flowers or butterflies or other circles in the center of the sparkly paper to use for other projects or to use on the panel of this project. you can’t see the inside center of the sparkly paper, so it’s kinda wasted paper.

  2. Great tip on layering with glimmer paper! That’s a new one for me! Also, good to know about coloring after embossing. I would have guessed it would have smudged.

    • Thanks Angie! The coloring would have smudged if I hadn’t gone back and heat set it with the Heat Tool. The final heating mixed the color with the embossing powder for good. 🙂

  3. Great card! I also read a comment, somewhere, about adhering glimmer paper…….you can peel the smooth shiny paper off the back of the glimmer paper & it will adhere better. I have used that idea & it works very well….especially for small items such as hearts, flowers, circles & etc…..but love the idea of punching holes & also another readers idea of cutting out the center to use for other projects. Thanks for all the ideas.

    • Thanks Karen! You can peel the backing of the Glimmer Paper to make it stick better to the layers below, but the hole punch trick works to add layers over the Glimmer Paper. It’s hard to get paper to stick over the bumpy glitter surface. 🙂

  4. I had never thought of the hole punch idea…..you made us all think on that one. What a great teacher you are Amy. Thanks for the tip today!

  5. Definitely glad you passed that tip on to us! I’ve had “fun” trying to get something to stick to glimmer paper, it did not happen… I’m also grateful for the tip on heat setting the ink on the craft ink. All around fabulous card to look at and 2 awesome techniques 😉 Thanks Amy!

  6. You’re just full of ideas today and a gorgeous card to boot! Love all the tips, including the white ink smudged on the black paper for the chalkboard look. TFS!
