Simply Celebrate Sea Salt Background – Stampin’ Up!

I used the Simply Celebrate stamp set from Stampin’ Up! and a little sea salt to create a card to share with you today.  I saw a cool video by Dawn Griffith where she used sea salt and ink refills to create a background.  I’ve done a basic written description of the technique below, but if you want to watch Dawn’s video click here.

My card design was inspired by Retrosketches #102.

To create the background, cut a panel of Watercolor Paper to the size that you need.  Wet the paper completely by painting it with your Aqua Painter and a little water, then drop a few drops of ink from your ink refill bottle onto the Watercolor Paper panel.  Move your paper around and use your Aqua Painter to distribute the ink over the panel, then drop a small amount of sea salt on the panel and let it dry.  Once dry, wipe off the pieces of sea salt and check out your results.  It’s pretty fun!  And any course salt will work, I just pulled the sea salt out of my pantry.

I used my Coastal Cabana ink refill to create my background panel and my Real Red refill to create the butterflies.  I used the same process for both panels but ended up with a different look on each panel.  Once my Coastal Cabana panel was dry, I adhered it to a Real Red card stock panel with SNAIL, then to a Coastal Cabana card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Simply Celebrate 3 - Stamp With Amy K

I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the sentiment from the Simply Celebrate stamp set (wood mount and clear mount) in VersaMark Ink on a panel cut from the Fresh Prints DSP Stack, sprinkled it with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Then I layered the stamped panel over a Real Red card stock panel and adhered it to the card front with SNAIL.

Simply Celebrate 2 - Stamp With Amy K

I punched two Bitty Butterfly Punches from the Real Red panel that I’d created with sea salt technique and adhered one with SNAIL and the other with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  I added a few sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim, using Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhered them and a few Pearl Basic Jewels to finish the card front.

Simply Celebrate 4 - Stamp With Amy K

I added a strip of the leftover Fresh Prints DSP and another Bitty Butterfly Punch from the Real Red sea salt panel to finish the inside of the card.
