If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you probably know that I have a daughter with Autism. One of her very favorite activities is painting. She will paint with watercolors, finger paints, regular paints, really any type of paint. We’ve got stacks and stacks of her little works of art (she can do 4-5 in a given session) and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with all of them.
When my Mother-in-law asked me to make her some note cards with the sentiment that I’d used on my card for World Autism Awareness Day (you can see that card here), I had an idea…and this is what I made for her.
This was a super simple and fun project. I cut the fabulous paintings that my daughter made into 3-1/4″ x 4-3/4″ panels, stamped the sentiment from the Perfect Pennants stamp set in StazOn Jet Black Ink on them and adhered them to the precut note cards that you can see on page 194 of the catalog.
Here are some individual shots of some of the cards. Each one is unique with its own colors and design.
I made two dozen note cards and I think these two are my favorites from the set.
And here is my little artist at work creating more paintings. Yes, she does love to paint her hands and use them to apply the paint to the paper as well. 🙂
You can find a complete list of supplies, including card stock cuts, at the very bottom of this post.

What a great idea. I love your daughter’s art work! Bravo to you both!
Thanks Liz! 🙂
Amy these are so special! Each one is a unique and beautiful work of art. And how fun for it to be a mother-daughter collaboration. I did a mixed media canvas recently with flowers and butterflies punched from a piece of artwork my daughter did about five years ago. I smile each time I look at it.
Thanks so much Terri! I bet that your mixed media canvas turned out beautifully! 🙂
Amy, what a fabulous idea! As a grandmother, myself, I can’t imagine your MIL not being overjoyed with your daughters artistic creations. I just don’t know if she will be able to part with any of them. LOL
Thanks Debra! I’m not sure if she’s used any of them or kept them all for herself!! 🙂
What an awesome way to honor your daughter’s art! Love it!
Thanks Yvette, I’m so glad that you like them 🙂

What a wonderful & so special, idea!! When my grandsons were younger, my daughter would take the large paper they painted on & use it to wrap the birthday gifts & make the enclosures to their friends. Thank you Kristi!! 🙂
Already left a note on Facebook but just wanted to say again what beautiful and colorful cards these are! Maybe you could turn this idea into a huge way of raising funds for Autism if other mothers have artwork available.
Great idea Melanie! Thanks for stopping by to leave me a comment here and on Facebook!
What gorgeous cards you made, Amy, with your daughter’s paintings! They truly are wonderful and I think a tribute to you and your little girl.
Thank you Diane, I’m glad that you liked them. 🙂
I love these! What a great idea for young kids’ artwork. I’ve got my own little artist that would like this project!
Thanks Heather!! 🙂
Great Idea. These would great bundled for a for sale for a fundraiser.
Thanks Carol!!
What a WONDERFUL idea! The cards are gorgeous and so perfect with the greeting.
Thanks so much Cindy! 🙂
what a great idea. But are your daughter and your MIL really willing to give away these msterpieces? Bet your daughter will be wanting to make more and more of these.
Thanks Mary! My daughter has no trouble giving up her “masterpieces”. I’m not so sure about my Mother-in-Law. 😉
Amy, it’s so wonderful that you and your daughter can share your love of crafting together! My son used to make his art pieces and we used to give them as cards as well. My daughter is coming up to that age and we’ll continue the tradition 🙂 I wish we could see what they do 🙂
I agree with the others, these would make a wonderful fundraiser item as well! I also like the sentiment from Work of Art for your daughter’s beautiful pieces.
Can’t wait to see her next projects, thank you for sharing these with us 🙂
Take care, Jill
I know, lots of smileys there, but your post made me happy and “smiley”!
I don’t mind the smileys at all…I use them a ton too! 🙂
Thanks Jill!!
This is just an amazing and beautiful idea! Anybody would be thrilled to receive those cards, but to a grandmother from a grandchild is just that much more special!
Thanks so much Julene!
Hi, Amy, I have a son who is autist, too. Your daughter is very talented!
Thanks for sharing and thanks for stopping by to leave a comment too! 🙂
This is a great idea! I did this with some artwork my son did in elementary school, except I took the original to a copy centre and had them print out about 20 of the art onto regular cards. Each grandma got these for Mother’s Day one year. This way I got to keep the original and they got a beautiful mostly handmade gift!
Thanks for stopping by to leave me a comment Tammy! Great idea to make copies for the cards. 🙂
