Welcome to the Autism Matters Leadership Blog Hop!

The intent of our blog hop today is to raise awareness and funds for autism related research, resources and services for those affected by autism and to advocate for the needs of those with autism.  Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years.  It is now more common in the United States than pediatric AIDS, juvenile diabetes, and childhood cancer combined.

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you probably already know this part…if you’re new to my blog, you’ll see why I jumped right in with this hop!

Raising awareness and funds for research and services for those with autism is very near and dear to me…I have a daughter with autism.  If you’re interested in reading more about our story, you can click over to this page on my blog.

Since Autism Speaks encourages everyone to, “Light It Up Blue” for the month of April to raise awareness, I’ve tried to do just that with my project today.  I used the Perfect Pennants and Timeless Textures stamp sets as well as the Rose Garden Thinlits Dies to create my card to share.

Perfect Pennants - Stamp With Amy K

The design for my card was inspired by Mojo Monday #442.

And the colors for my card were inspired by Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #42 (perfect colors this week, thank you!!).

I started by inking the flourish image from Timeless Textures stamp set in Soft Sky ink, stamping it on scrap paper, then stamping it on a panel of Whisper White card stock.  I inked the sentiment from the Perfect Pennants stamp set with Soft Sky and stamped it with my MISTI on the panel.  I masked the sentiment, then inked just the top line in Bermuda Bay and stamped it with the MISTI on the panel and then repeated the process with Night of Navy ink for the bottom line.  I adhered the stamped panel to a panel of Soft Sky card stock with SNAIL and to a Night of Navy card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Perfect Pennants 1 - Stamp With Amy K

I embossed panels of Whisper White card stock with the Fluttering Embossing Folder and the Elegant Dots Embossing Folder.  I adhered the embossed panels to panels of Soft Sky card stock and then to the card front with SNAIL.  I stamped the dot image from the Perfect Pennants stamp set in Soft Sky ink on a strip of Whisper White card stock, slid the end through my Banner Punch and punched it, then adhered it to the card front with SNAIL.

Perfect Pennants 3 - Stamp With Amy K

I cut the rose with the Rose Garden Thinlits Die from Soft Sky and Night of Navy card stocks.  I punched a 2″ Circle from Night of Navy card stock and adhered the Night of Navy die cut to it with Mulitpurpose Liquid Glue.  I sponged the edges of the Soft Sky die cut pieces with Bermuda Bay ink and a Sponge Dauber, then glued the pieces inside the Night of Navy die cut.  I adhered the die cut to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a single Rhinestone Basic Jewel to finish it.

Timeless Textures - Stamp With Amy K

I stamped the flourish from the Timeless Textures stamp set in Night of Navy ink on a Whisper White panel inside the card.  A complete list of supplies as well as card stock cuts for this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.

  1. Thanks so much for joining in Amy and for sharing your story and that of your daughter. I feel together we can make a difference and let people know that Autism Matters. Statistics are high….we need to slow it down for our Children’s sake. Big Hug my friend and hope to see you soon.

  2. amy your card is absolutely stunning, I didn’t know that about the blue, will have to join you with a blue card next time. Awesome hop my friend and keep up the good fight.

  3. Hi Amy
Wow! I have been following only your work, for awhile now, and love it. I am from Canada and also a demonstrator. I just read this blog and wanted to share that I also have a child with autism. He is doing very well now. We have had much support from community and had him in the ABA program. He is 19 now and working. I am on disability for awhile and who would think that one day my child that was diagnosed with autism would be helping out financially. It does make a difference when people support and help these children right from the get go. Now he doesn’t have to be collecting money from the government. Love him to death. His success is based on a program pilot project. Sometimes early supports can make a whole lot of difference in the next 50 years. Awareness is key. Love moms like you!!!

    • Hi Darlene, just wanted to say hi. I’m also a Canadian who loves Amy’s blog and has a teenage son with autism. My son will be 19 in August and is doing a “bonus” year in high school (after graduating last year, with honours, and being awarded over $3,500 in scholarships) while taking online horticulture courses from the University of Guelph and doing work experience at a local farm. There is so much potential for our kids. Glad you were able to get early support for your son and that he is doing so well! Sending a hug your way from Vancouver Island, BC

  4. Love this card, Amy – your daily emails always inspire me. Wish I had that creative gene, but your kind to share yours! I too have a “child” with autism – he is now 18 years old, happy, healthy, and a high-school grad. I appreciate your theme today especially <3

  5. This is such a lovely card! All the white space really makes this rose pop! I work as an RN in a vocational rehabilitation center with many autistic students and their talents and creativity can be very inspirational. Thanks so much for joining us at Mojo Monday and for providing awareness about autism!

  6. Amy, your card is beautiful! I commend your courage to share your daughter’s journey. I taught school for 27 years and worked with many children with autism. I have several friends with autistic children. It is a cause dear to my heart! God speed, My Friend! XX

  7. Amy your card is beautiful! Love all the embossed layers and that die cut rose!! Thank you for sharing your own story about autism. I have watched one of my very close friends raise her son from birth to now a teenager with autism and it has been quite a journey for them. My heart goes out to all parents who are raising and caring for children with autism. Thank you so much for joining us this week at Stamp Ink Paper 🙂

  8. Beautiful card Amy and what a wonderful way to help others become aware through your hop. Your daughter is blessed to have people in her life that care so deeply.

  9. Beautiful card Amy. I love the pretty blue rose, the little jewel and the fitting sentiment. Sometimes we have to adjust our perception of what a perfect life looks like and find joy in the life we do have as it happens. Best wishes to you and your family.

  10. Hi Amy! Beautiful card. Next year, can I join you guys on the blog hop? My little boy Luke also has Autism. You may have seen him on Facebook. God bless your daughter and your family always xoxox

  11. Your card is stunning Amy! The sentiment you chose is perfect on so many levels – one that is near to my heart too. My mother is a school teacher and works with many children with varying degrees of autism. The one consistent behaviour is they always respond the best to love! Your daughter is so lucky to have you standing behind her, along with the support of caring teachers from an early age 🙂

  12. Such a clean and simple beauty Amy, and I spotted the MOJO sketch right away. How awesome that our colors coincide with Autism Awareness. Your card has such a wonderful and meaningful sentiment too, I love it. Thanks so much for joining us this week at Stamp Ink Paper!
